Date Night

Daniel and I have it good - really good. We have some very special friends here who in addition to renting us a beautiful home, they also have become our extended family. These people are who we entrust Zoe's care to when I need a break or when Daniel and I feel like we need a break together. I am so thankful for them and am quite aware that this pregnancy would be so much harder if we didn't have them to lean on for support. So last night we dropped Zoe off and Daniel and I ventured out for a nice dinner at P.F. Chang's. We had a leisurely dinner that included a calamari appetizer, crispy honey shrimp, and banana spring rolls... oh, my goodness - BANANA Spring Rolls... with coconut pineapple ice cream and caramel sauce! Heaven! We talked about living in Bakersfield, about Zoe, about how excited we were for our son to arrive. We flirted and beamed at each other, laughed, and we people watched. We made fun of our server who might have been the worst server ev-ar - he made a ...

Baby Blogger

Image
So for some reason, our baby is fascinated by gadgets. Laptops, computers, cell phones, cameras, you name it! If Zoe sees one, she wants it. I don't know how this happened! What I do know is that it was getting hard for me to blog or be on the computer at all around her because she would reach for the keyboard and cause general havoc. So, we got her a "Laugh-top". The age for it 3-7*, but she seems to be doing just fine. She likes pressing the keys and hearing the music and voices. I gave it to her this afternoon to play with and she squealed with delight (and got right to work). Cutest thing I've ever seen and I've got to say it makes me beam to see her on a computer having a good time. * Funny thing is, I asked Daniel to get it out of it's packaging last night because I knew I wouldn't have the patience for all the tape and stuff they use to keep it secure in the box. He opens it up, turns it on and the computer prompts him to press the letter "V...

NERD ALERT!

Image
I would not say that I'm much of a shopper. Sure, there was a time when I wanted to buy lots of new outfits and cute shoes were hard to resist... but now, not so much. Purses are a thing of the past for me - and even then I only had a few purses that were all way less than $100 bucks each that I would use until they were worn away to nothing. At this point I'm all about the diaper bag - I could see myself getting addicted to those, maybe. Shoes? Well, ever since I decided it was best for my physical well being (I'm a klutz and I get bad vertigo - not a good combination) to not wear high heals, I've lost my fascination. I'm all about Keen's and other comfy shoes now. If I can't walk comfortably in my shoes for a couple hours, then forget it. But that's not to say I don't have other shopping vices. Like for instance, music. Before I got pregnant with Zoe I was buying multiple CD's or downloads from iTunes weekly. I've missed my music sprees ...

Day Twenty: Music Makes the People Come Together

Ever sing along with a song and kind of fudge your way through the lyrics? Add an extra "la" or make up words that you think sound right with the melody. Ever since I was a kid, I've been singing along to what I hear on the radio. Doesn't matter if it's the first time I've heard the song or not, I'll soon jump in and sing whatever words I've gathered that the actual artist is singing at the top of my lungs. I have this feeling it might be annoying to just about everyone except my mom as she's always begging me to sing and I kindly refuse. There are times though when I am absolutely positive I am singing the right words. So adamant that when I'm singing the song in bed to be funny and my husband tries to correct me, I tell him that he is wrong. I KNOW the lyrics! And when I start acting all excited and wronged by his doubting he asks me to not run into the living room to look up the words on the internet... and I obey his wishes, but reach for...

Day Eight: Killer Whales

The other day, Daniel had to call Apple about our damaged power cords. We purchased the Apple Care plan for both Mac's so the whole process was relatively painless. Well, it was completely painless for me as I played the sick card and requested Daniel make the call. I usually am the one who takes care of things like this because of my experience in retail and customer service. After years of dealing with horrible customers, I do not hesitate to voice my opinions and concerns politely but with conviction. And if someone is rude to me or doesn't do what is within their power to do? Well, I can get a little frustrated and I will ask for a supervisor. Don't make me ask for a supervisor! Daniel had a nice rep from Ghana. I know this because I overheard him making chit chat with the guy and the guy asked Daniel to guess where his accent was from. This was funny to me. What was even funnier? When Daniel was giving one of the Mac serial numbers to the rep, he did so by naming some...

Day Six: Grumble, Grumble, Gah!

I'm having technical difficulties. Actually, Daniel and I are both having them with our Macs. Our lovely, beautiful, perfect little Macs that we adore and use every single freaking day. BOTH of our power adapters are pretty much dead and this pretty much ticks me off to no end. Fraying power cords = suckage. I'm currently typing like a mad woman because I have 46% battery and I'll be darned if I'm going to let that stop me from posting every single gosh darn day of NaBloPoMo! Grrr. Gah! So, the people at Apple are sending two new cords. They say they'll be here Friday. FRIDAY!!!??? Grumble, Grumble. Gah! Scrooge. 45%!!!! Damn. Posting and powering off.... now. ------ Later: OK. So I wrote this like, two hours ago and blogger was not cooperating, so I couldn't post it. You can imagine how well this went over with me. Not well, let me tell you. But I'm feeling much less Scrooge-like at the moment because Apple has delivered. That's right, my faith is resto...

Mel Rocks!

Image
Our awesome friend Mel was in town this weekend and did us the honor of taking some pics of us: "36 weeks, 2 days" Now we have some cool photos of us so we can look back at all of this and see photographic proof of us and my huge belly - and how excited we were to become parents. I think the pictures clearly show that. I am SO happy with how they turned out, I just had to share. Thank you so much, Mel! :)

Planet Earth w/ a side of Zoe talk

Last week Daniel and I decided we wanted to purchase Planet Earth (the BBC DVD) . We’d missed it on television because we don’t have cable but we had heard good things about it. After seeing a fifteen-minute preview last Thursday, we decided we needed it for our DVD library. We were going to buy the DVD set because we wanted to share it with Zoe. Zoe needed us to buy this DVD. Um, yeah. We seriously discussed this at great length. How we thought Zoe would think it was cool*. How it would be a learning experience for her. We completely justified making the purchase because we were doing it for our baby - Our baby who will not be watching Planet Earth for years to come, but whatever. We were also buying it because we wanted to watch it, so we watched the first episode last night. The views were gorgeous. The camera work was amazing. The animals were intriguing to watch. And I didn’t cry once. Well, I almost did, but I toughened up. - I did squeal (seriously, I did) when the mama polar be...

Comic-Mania

Well, we're back in the calm that is our home. Air blasting, dog snoring, fingers typing....it's good to be home. Not to say that our weekend wasn't fabulous. Oh, it was! I wasn't really sure what to expect from this event: Comic-Con. I knew people would be in costume. I expected a lot of geeks in one location. I was looking forward to lots of vendors and interesting panels. I was hoping I might see a movie star or two. Costumes: Lots of comic book characters on hand, that's a no brainer. Also in attendance were Manga and anime characters and obvious fans of Star Wars, Firefly (Browncoats), Fifth Element, Men in Black, Jay & Silent Bob (just to name a few). It seems that geek chicks are huge fans of the corset and fishnets. There were moments where I thought I might be at a Rocky Horror convention. 100,000 people: Yep. You read that correctly. The convention center was so crowded that people were turned away from the event. People brought their infants, toddlers...
