Goodbye, Buffy (the Family Dog, not the Vampire Slayer)

Image
Buffy was my parents dog. They got her as a puppy around the time I moved out of my parents house the first time. We joked that them getting a sweet little puppy was their attempt at getting me to not move out but I don't think that was really the case... even if it is a shame that didn't work. Ha. Not really, truth is those choices are what shaped me into who I am now as a person: a wife, mother, friend, etc. But that's not what this is about. This is about Buffy. Buffy was the 2nd Buffy my parents have had. The first passed away when I was a baby, I think. Buffy the 2nd seemed to always have a smile on her face. She had big brown eyes that could melt your heart. She was a big girl and we joked affectionately that she was part dog, part cow. Despite her large size, Buffy thought she was a lap dog. Shaking hands soon turned into her throwing both arms around you. Buffy never met a pair of black pants she didn't cover with her long hair and she never met a treat she didn...

Dog Parenting

When we started telling people we were pregnant with Zoe, most people commented on how Bailey and Max wouldn't be our kids anymore. There were misunderstandings about gentleness, licking, boundaries, etc. Daniel and I watched Bailey and Max constantly and we were eager to have Zoe love them as much as we do. We may freak out if they bark too loud while she's sleeping, and we may not play fetch quite as often as Bailey would like... But they're still my kids. We refer to them as Zoe's sister and brother even if there was that short time that everyone had to learn to coexist peacefully, we've all adapted. We just dropped my dog children off at their "Dog Hotel" so that they won't jump all over our guests and stress themselves out over all the activity in the house. I know that they will be fine, especially since they'll be sharing a run with each other and we'll be picking them up first thing Monday morning, but I miss them already. And like the...

Day Thirty-One: Can't Stop

Image
So I'm not committing to posting every single day indefinitely, but I sure am going to give it my best because I've really enjoyed this challenge. It helps me feel like I'm having adult interactions and conversations instead of just watching Baby Einstein and The Backyardigans and making funny noises and faces at Zoe all day. A gal can only sing her ABC's and nursery rhymes so many times a day before she starts feeling like a baby instead of a twenty-eight fine, THIRTY-ONE! year old. So yeah, we'll see how long this lasts before I start taking days off again. Rehearsal for 'Imaginary Friends' starts a week fro tomorrow and Zoe's going to be crawling any day now, I just know it. Life is about to get a whole lot more hectic, as if it's not hectic already. Somedays, I wish I could just chill and watch tv all day: But I'd be missing out on so much and I would have nothing to blog about.

Day Sixteen: Puppy love

I am so proud of Max and Bailey and how they’ve adjusted to all the change they’ve had in their lives recently. First they had to get used to not being able to pounce on my tummy whenever they wanted because I had a resident. Then, they had to get used to a new little human in their house: a little human who demands a lot of attention and cries. If that wasn’t enough, we relocated our family across town and they had a new house and yard to contend with. To make things even more interesting, they don’t have a doggie door so they have to “ask” to be let outside. They are the awesome and haven't had a single accident (knock on wood). And then? Zoe has recently started to really take notice of her “brother” and “sister”. She "pets" them and watches them and grabs on to their collars and fur without a grumble from them. It's like they're finally getting what they've wanted from her: attention. The dog children have been little angels (aside from stealing burp cloth...

First of all, our opening weekend of "The Full Monty" went great. The audiences seemed to love us and we all had a great time. Secondly, I'm exhausted! So...I'm taking a brief hiatus from the blogging. The time will be spent performing "TFM" for three more weekends, rehearsing "Assassins", hosting friends & family over two different weekends, and trying to find time for some R&R. I'll probably (definitely!)check in on your blogs and I'm likely to post Photo Friday submissions, but consider this lady on blog vacation until possibly the end of October**. Til then, I leave you with the dog children: **Let's make it October 10th. That gives me 2 days to recover from "TFM". I just can't stay away from this blog for too long!
